Story wise it serves as the logo for the Falcom International Corporation, the company responsible for the current crisis.
When the company was first founded the world was in dire straights. A massive economic depression had led to the collapse of many necessary industries and a record breaking level of unemployment. The company was founded by a group of 9 friends and small businessmen in order to provide jobs and necessary goods and services to their city. Their motto "Aid in the Midst of Chaos" was reflected in their original logo resembling two hands cupping the planet.
The company soon found itself the only game in town as other long time industries folded leaving a power vacuum which Falcom soon occupied. As it expanded the company began picking up all of the employees that had been laid off in the depression giving Falcom a grab-bag of talented workers and specialists from every industry. One such talent pool was an excess of scientists engineers dropped from government projects that could no longer be afforded. By the time the world was coming out of the depression Falcom was represented in nearly every industry in every major country.
As the years wore on and the original founders passed away or retired the company's attitude changed. It's goals became nothing but to profit, its goods became vicious monopolies and its research and development branches were turned towards more lucrative ventures like military contracting. Falcom's logo reflected the company's decent into greed as the gentle hands around the planet were streamlined into cold abstract designs now unrecognizable as the symbol of hope they once were.
