It's supposed to be a placation, "supposed to" being the main phrase here. Words that remind us that we are all equal in the end, no differences to be found at all.

It's not exactly comforting when you are the one dying.

As your life slips away you feel something. Regret? Anger? Sorrow perhaps?

Whatever the feeling, you realize that more than anything, you want to continue to live.

And as that moment between life and death stretches into eternity, you are made an offer, an ultimatum.

Welcome to The Tower of Revival. An OC tournament, where, for the OC in question, there is a very simple but precious prize. A prize any and all can and probably will cherish.

Life. Or rather, a second chance at it.

Story:
Sweat blinds you as it runs into your vision in little rivulets, you can hear yourself raggedly panting with painful breaths. But it comes from far away, a great distance stretching on and on forever. Those sounds seem so very far... Blood flecks your lips, you hear strange sounds reverberate around you. Perhaps that is just your delirious mind sending false messages... The battle you have fought has been lost, it is a fact as of this point. It has all been for naught.

As you close your eyes in defeat your final thoughts are still regretful. Dammit, you want to live! It can't end this way, it just can't! But end it does. You feel your heart stop, you feel a coldness begin to creep over your skin, engulfing your body in the folds of Death's cloak.

You die.

"Get up."
You slowly open your eyes, and there, standing on the stone floor is Death in all his magnificent glory. You both converse for a little bit, but it all boils down to one thing: You're back. Or, you seem to be. Death glides away, and knowing you have nothing to lose at this point you follow him out of the small, dank room you were in. After a little bit of walking you see others gathered in a large. ornate room, strange beings indeed. Death floats above all of you and recites the following:

“You are all here because of a single desire. This desire, this need, burns like bright star fire against dark inevitability. The intense need to live, to go on and perhaps leave your mark on the living world. I alone hold the power to grant this dearest wish. All you need to do is reach the top of this very tower. If you complete this task your life will resume as though the event of your death had never happened. But only one is allowed to return. The fabric of reality will allow no more than that. So which of you will it be? This will be decided by one thing and one thing alone: battle.”



Setting:
The Tower of Revival is ancient and for whatever odd reason it is actually furnished with many things. Outside is nothing but half-seen and half-heard images and a whirling cyclone of colors. You can feel that the world of the living is just beyond. The tower itself contains many things, old traps and treasures long forgotten. These stones, you can almost feel them humming with power. Whatever the tower is resting on is unknown, a thick mist permeates the base of the tower. One would shiver at the thought of falling down into that mist's clutches.



How to Enter:

Audition piece:
Anyone who wishes to enter must submit a short audition piece depicting the final moments of their OC and the offer made to them by Death. If they accept they are transported instantaneously to the base of the tower. No matter what their state at the time of their imminent demise they arrive in perfect health.

In addition, a reference sheet is required. This can be a written description, a character sheet, or some combination of the two and should contain enough information for others to be able to properly depict your character and their weapons and attacks.

OC restrictions:
This tournament is open to all OCs (with the exception of immortals for obvious reasons.) Anything that can die, from animals to monsters to reptiles to robots to gods are allowed as long as the conditions of the audition are met. However they must be sentient and have the ability to communicate in some way, of course.

Fan characters of any series are of course not accepted

In addition, you may not use any characters you have created beforehand. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ONE THING, if the character in question has competed in other OC tournaments, they are of course allowed to compete in this one. Though it's up to you to bridge the gap in a way you see fit.

Also, due to the nature of the tournament only one character is allowed per contestant. No companions can accompany your OC to the land of the dead (unless there is one heck of a good reason. If in doubt, note Bwarch.)

Medias accepted:
At this time the tournament is accepting Flash, comics, and written entries.

As this tournament is open to everyone, please keep DA's terms and policies in mind when submitting a deviation for consideration.

Judging:
This tournament is open to all skill levels, and pieces will be judged on creativity, quality and originality first and foremost. However, as this is a tournament all contestants are encouraged to try their best.

DEADLINE
All reference sheets and auditions are due by May 5th. No exceptions, no extensions.
